We have a backup and it records to the HDD on the Recorder so we can give the children and parents a copy of the show on DVD !

MVTV 18 November 2014

We had our Korean visitors watching MVTV this morning so we worked hard to make sure the whole show went really well so we could impress our visitors.
All was going well until we got to the weather and then TriCaster decided to stop working properly. Then the script prompter stopped and so our weather person changed cameras and screen prompters and continued even though we didn't have a decent picture !
Things were a bit chaotic for a while but we did get it solved - just at the end of the show !

You can view our great show at http://youtu.be/0udCWZHooNw

Thanks so much for watching our show and for following our blog.
The children say "Do TVNZ have these issues ? "

And I reply "YES"

11 November 2014

A big day today when the Year 6 and 7 had to get the show ready. They had a big job and no Year 8s to remind them. Hence we were a bit late for the practice today ! 5 minutes late makes all the difference !

Sound was an issue today during the practice but they tested and problem solved and found a faulty mic was to blame !
Well done sound crew and  we have an all girl sound crew on this morning !

You can view the show at ...

6 November 2014

We have the Year 8's training the new Year 6 crew today. They are asking questions and giving suggestions and have to be hands off, and for some it is a hard ask !
A learning curve for them all !

28 October 2014

Today we had the new trainees starting and they got hit with the first task. And that is you will be asked to present on MVTV at any stage and they all had a go today. They had not seen the script and only have one practice and they all coped well.
The other crew members had to take over the rest of the jobs and the Year 8 crew are taking on a more mentoring role for the newbies !

A good show today and can be seen at http://youtu.be/PHYxsLg_wsY

16 October 2014

The show went relatively well today until TriCaster crashed and then we had to do a re-start !
It is the longest 90 seconds ever while you wait for it to re start......
The sound desk problem was fixed on Tuesday so it was all go there as well. It turned out it was a loose card in the desk so it was fixed in a few minutes.
The VC PIX computer didn't want to go so we took it out to the caretakers shed and took the video card out and blew it with the compressor air hose and then we did the computer as well. It was a good case to start up the sinuses as there was a lot of dust. We put it back together and it worked so it was a combination of dust and re setting the video card !
The new Year 6 crew start training next week so its going to be a bit crowded in MVTV as we make the transition.
The Year 8 crew come back this term for 3 weeks as trainers only and it's their job to get the new crew started, then after that the Year 7's take over and by the end of the term they should be ready for the first show of 2015 !

You can view our show at http://youtu.be/Nnm0lM5BZbU

14 October 2014

We returned from Ulearn last Thursday and all the gear was left on the floor in MVTV. We spent most of the morning setting it back up again, and there were "gremlins" to work out too. The worst part was the sound desk would not go at all !
The only solution was to plug the mics directly into Tricaster but this meant we only had 4 lapel mics so it was a bit chaotic changing mics as we changed presenters.
We had various issues but the audience hopefully didn't see or hear them, the crew took care of it as the show went on !

9 October 2014

Today is the second Thursday in the school holidays and we are at school at 6:15 - in the morning....yes in the morning !  We pack the cars with all the gear and 24 children, 5 cars and 7 adults are off to Rotorua to the Ulearn Conference 2014.
We are presenting a workshop on MVTV to the teachers who attended Ulearn and it went very well. We were running late because of the traffic and arrive in Rotorua 20 minutes before the workshop starts. We set up the TV studio in the room and the sound desk didn't want to work, the graphics computer was not showing the graphics but we soldiered on.
From our point of view it was the worst presentation because it all didn't work properly but from the participants point of view it was the best ! They said later it was great to see that it all doesn't work 100% or glossy looks, it was great that it did have issues !
And the best part was that the students, the MVTV crew remained clam and collected and worked through the problems getting it all working in the end. They didn't scream for mr Govers help and instead they worked quietly and calmly to solve the issues. It was great to watch and showed the children knew how to sort it and work under pressure to make it work. And make it work they did, even with a few laughs in between !
We had lunch and then at 1:30 we did the second workshop on 3D Printing and Robots and that was fantastic !
We left the Conference Centre at 4, had Pizza for tea and was back on the road by 5 and then back to MVS by 8:00.
A LONG DAY !

Pictures will follow !

The last show for 2014
Great fun next term as we have the new Year 6 children start their training.

23 September 2014

We had a very hectic morning and everyone did their job well but it seemed we were going very fast all the time.  The show went well with the senior children presenting.
We have decided that we need more re-chargable batteries for the mics as some of them are dying and we have to remember that  they are used and re charged 3 times a week for over a year or so  its time for more I think !
We have the new Year 6 crew starting to train next term so we are asking for expressions of interest this week - last week of term 3 - so we will see who is keen to join.
Being in the MVTV crew is a big commitment but everyone enjoys it and to go to Conferences and "TEACH TEACHERS" is a great reward for all of them.

The best thing they have learnt and still talk about is this.
We were running a workshop on MVTV and 2 teachers were up the back talking and playing on their ipads when the kids asked them if they wanted to join in they said "No - we are not interested"

WELL - you should have h eard the kids comments afterwards. They were disgusted with the teachers behaviour, rude, not joining in, talking while we were, disrupting the workshop.

We were listening to their comments and we agreed with them completely !
When they asked for our comments we just said, "Now you know what it's like to TEACH !"

So next time you talk in class - muck around etc - just think of what you said about the teachers !
BECAUSE it sounds just like you sometimes !

18 September 2014

We had fun today - the show went well with a few hiccups and the show looked great - our new presenters were a bit nervous but it was OK.
It is quite intimidating being the presenter and having to sit in front of the camera so well done to everyone who came out of their comfort zone to give it a go.
We have been doing MVTV since 2003 and theres been over a 1000 children who have had the experience of being the MVTV crew during that time and then one of our maths whizz kids said at an average of 5 presenters a show (sometimes more!) and 3 times a week then 12 years that means over 7200 children have presented on MVTV, a great opportunity for them !!

And we are going to the Ulearn Conference too on October 9. We are doing 2 workshops  -  MVTV and 3D Printers and Robotics so it should be fun - 5 parents, 6 cars and 24 kids
More on that later!

You can see the show at http://youtu.be/CfOdLtZauaM

16 September 2014

So - where do we start ????
We think TVNZ have problems too but we coped well and the worst thing was TriCaster froze halfway through the show. We had to re start it - longest 90 seconds for the day - so with a bit of creative editing it did make it to the web so you can view it - its a bit patchy but we did the show and it was a great learning curve for all the crew.
As one of the crew said to me - "its a great example of what can go wrong and how to fix it"
Definitely not our best show ever but its a gentle reminder that technology can throw you a curve ball and that we can cope with anything that the technology throws at us !  GOOD or BAD !

You can view the show at  http://youtu.be/rcynrJtRTd8

11 September 2014

We had fun with the show today - everything went smoothly and the ads we made were well received - great game of the week Room 21
We are getting interest from the Year 6 children who want to join MVTV next Term.. they will train Term 4 ready for 2015......

9 September 2014

The show was a bit chaotic today in that we had presenters not turning up on time - they got their scripts yesterday and they have to be here at 8:00 - the crew are here at 7:30 to get it ready so by 8:00 we are ready to rock n roll and we had to do some last minute swaps, hence Poppy in a blue shirt on a blue background - chroma keying was a bit weird but we got there!
ONE practice to get it right works as when we did 2 the presenters were "flat" by the time we went live
Mr Moores class were good presenters and everyone in their class came to watch.

4September 2014

The show went much smoother today. I think we got rid of most of the gremlins. We had sound problems but it got sorted. We are having hassles getting enough time to do everything too. And theYear 8 crew will be stepping down at the end of this term and the Year 7 crew will be training the Year 6 newbies ready for Term One 2015 with the Year 8 crew looking on ""advising" and helping with training.

2 September 2014

Where do we start ? have you ever had a techno week from ?  We'll we had all in one day . In fact in one show. Power glitches and computer freezes and the screen prompt failed too. You name it, we had it !
BUT, we took it in our stride and soldiered on. Talk about just in time learning. Coupled with good problem solving skills and a big dose of thinking outside the square. And we finished the show. It's not a good example of what we normally do but it's a good reminder of what can go wrong and how to solve it. So a big learning curve . Enjoy the show and just remember this is a show made by 10-12 year old children.
MVTV is such cool fun.
If you are going to Ulearn 2014 in Rotorua.we may see you there on October 9. We are presenting two workshops and one is on MVTV.

MVTV 26 August 2014

26 August 2014
We had a great show today. No real technical problems. We had chroma key issues with the sun coming through the screen. So we did a quick fix on the fly. We have set up lights above the blue screen to shine down behind the presenters so hopefully it will work. Now we have to make light boxes for the LED lights in front of them as it's too bright. Apart from that it was a good show.  We need to talk to the group about jobs.  There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians so the little jobs often get forgotten and then it falls down around them. Working as a team is good . We just need to make sure no job is too small or below them !

Continuing on .....

So this is what we have done now.
We have created a mvtvstation channel on Youtube - but its currently unlisted so you can only view it from here. It's a work in progress to see if its going to work.

Your video will be live at: http://youtu.be/rcO1nIyB91k   August 12
Your video will be live at: http://youtu.be/m1kJVO60fJs   August 19

MVTV August 21 2014   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgwW5v0990k

MVTV August 26 Your video will be live at:http://youtu.be/VyQy0EsH7vw

Here is the link to a few - ... feel free to leave comments here on the blog - the kids would love it !!!!!

Once we get the system in place we will be getting the kids to comment on the show each time and posting the link to the show from Youtube and that means more work !!!!!!

New way to do things

We are constantly trying and changing things so the "beast" known as MVTV is constantly evolving, and is ever time consuming, even after eleven years.
Right now we are having no end of issues with loading our mp4 shows to the web into Schooltube. So we decided to try YouTube but made it unlisted until we sorted it out. We load to YouTube then put a link to that on the school website.  But then that's going soon so it's a interim fix.
Then we will change it again !
Confusing.....?????
The show today was good and it was quick as to post it to the web then link it back. So that works for now !

MVTV Thursday Show

8:40 Thursday and we have had our practice, everything went well, just the normal changes like camera and sound, is that mic on, battery flat,re position camera.
we have some good video today from the classes too...

We are having hassles with SchoolTube and not been able to put up the shows since July 22,emailed them but no reply yet. It's  frustrating so we may need to look at another website to post to,then link back to the MVS website.

We have been accepted for 2 Ulearn workshops too so everyone is very excited. One is on MVTV and one on Robotics and 3D printers - our journey, so thats coming up on October 9.
